On September 27, 2023, the Portland Public Schools hosted a conference entitled Beyond Borders: A Conference on Migration and Integration. The conference focused on the successful integration of immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants to Maine in our community's economic, social, cultural, and political life. One of the breakout sessions at the event was a panel of Portland Public Schools alumni who shared about their experiences as immigrant students during their years at PPS and beyond. A huge thank you to Sulwan Ahmed, Eduardo Beteta, Belyze Ndayikunda, John Ochira, Carla Reyes-Peraza, and Doris Juarez for their participation.
