Deering High School celebrating 150 years with homecoming festivities

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) – It’s a milestone year for Deering High School in Portland. The school is using its homecoming weekend to celebrate its 150th birthday.

Portland Public Schools says this isn't just any ordinary homecoming; it's a historic occasion to bring together generations of “Ramilies” (Deering students and families), alumni and Deering neighbors for celebratory events.

Deering High School was established in 1874. Portland Public Schools says students were housed in numerous buildings over the years but the current building dates back more than a century, to 1922.

On Friday, there will be a grand homecoming celebration. The school will be cheering on their varsity football team as they take on Gorham High School at 6 p.m. The school is hosting a tailgating event prior to the start of the game.

Deering High School students will enjoy the homecoming dance on Saturday. It's a chance for Deering students to dance the night away and create memories that will be cherished for years to come.
