In the last months of Gina Stivaletti's life, she thought deeply about her legacy. She traced her 37-year career at Unum to the solid education she received in Portland Public Schools, graduating from Deering High School in 1979. She wanted to leave a gift to show her gratitude, providing 21st-century students with the same high-quality education that had given her such an auspicious start.
So Gina called Andi to set up Foudation for Portland Public Schools as a beneficiary of her retirement account and to talk about the ways her gift might be used.
Gina passed in July. Her $271,000 bequest will expand the district's offerings of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
Gina loved traveling, visiting museums, galleries, sporting events, national parks, and listening to the Rolling Stones. She was described as having a smile that would light up the room. Her gift will light up the curriculum for thousands of PPS students.
On their behalf, we are honored and grateful for the generosity of Gina Stivaletti.
